SOPREMA develops an innovative combination of a new-generation compound and reinforcement called Elium. Soprelium®, the first waterproofing membrane to use this new technology, reduces the number of installation steps required, significantly increasing on-site productivity while improving working conditions. The membrane’s weight per square metre is reduced by more than 35%, while the surface area of each roll increases by 25%.

The Second World War once again forces the company to relocate. This time to Avignon, where Pierre GEISEN builds a new production facility and founds the “Société des Produits et Revêtements d’Étanchéité MAMMOUTH” (from whose acronym SOPREMA is born).

Pierre GEISEN, an engineer from the École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures and son of the founder of SOPREMA, takes over the management of the Company.

At the same time, he improves MAMMOTH by coating it with a thin sheet of aluminium in order to protect it from temperature variations, weather conditions and ultraviolet rays, thus significantly increasing its durability.

Charles GEISEN is looking for a waterproof, flexible and easy-to-install material.
He finds the solution by immersing a jute fabric in hot bitumen. The result: a sheet that is both lightweight and strong. This is how “MAMMOUTH” is born.
